Happy 2016!

Dear Families,

We are starting 2016 with lots of creative thinking and problem-solving in art class.  Please remember that students may get messy on art class day.  It is a good idea for students to wear old clothes or paint shirts on art class day.  Fourth and fifth graders are exploring printmaking and special effects with paint.  Third graders are creating patterns inspired by ancient cultures.  Second grade art students are learning Chinese style brush painting.  Pre K, K and first grade art students are exploring all kinds of repeat patterns and winter themes.

Our first student art show of 2016 will be at The State Capitol in the General Assembly Building in Richmond, VA.  This exhibition begins in mid January and ends in March 2016.  Artwork should be returned to students by April or May of 2016 with a certificate.  For details about how to visit the show contact Legislative Assistant Jordan Dix at (434)-245-8900.

The following 4th and 5th grade students are representing BW and SES in this art exhibition:
Lela, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Madeline, Emily, Drew, Stella, Gabriela, Grace and Amy from BW.
Phillip, Mackenzie C., Samantha S., Andrew D., Rose, Brooke and Ashlyn from SES.

I am happy to have these opportunities to recognize student achievement in the arts!
